Home Learning Codes let students sign in to Seesaw from home using a unique QR code or text code while protecting student privacy.

  • Individual code for each student
  • Valid for 1 year
  • No need to change class sign-in mode
  • Students only see their own work
  • Available as QR or text code

Home Learning code requirements

  • Home Learning Codes must be enabled by your school administrator before teachers can generate them.
  • Home Learning codes can only be generated from a computer.
  • Students can have up to 50 valid Home Learning codes.
  • ⚠️To ensure student work remains private at home: tap on Class Settings (wrench icon) of your teacher account and toggle 'students can see each other's work' off. This way students can only access their own posts and are unable to look at other students' work.
  • Once signed in, a student will stay signed in for up to one year until they sign out
How do I access Home Learning codes? 
  1. In Class Settings > Students > tap Home Learning Student codes.  
  2. Print or Download codes to distribute to students.
  3. Each student will have a unique QR code and a 16-letter text code.
    1. PDF (one page per student) 
    2. or CSV (by class or for all students taught by a teacher) '
How do students sign in with Home Learning codes? 
  1. Open the Seesaw app or app.seesaw.me. 
  2. Select I'm a Student
  3. Scan the QR code or enter the text code.

If students are already using their email addresses to sign in to Seesaw, they can continue to do so from home.

How do I reset a Home Learning code?

Home Learning Codes can be reset at any time if needed. For example, reset codes if you believe they've been shared or compromised.

  1. Tap on Class Settings (wrench icon).
  2. Click on Students > Home Learning Student codes.
  3. Tap the "Need to reset all home learning codes in this class?" link.
  4. Confirm by tapping the "Reset All Codes" button.
  5. You'll receive a confirmation pop-up that Home Learning Codes have been reset. 
What is the difference between Home Learning codes and Class codes? 
  • Class codes are for students to use when they are working in their classroom. Home Learning codes are a secure way for students to log in from home.
  • 🚩 The Class code should only be used in the physical classroom. To protect student privacy, the Class Code should not be sent home with students to log in from home.
  • 🚩 Students who do not log in via email/SSO should log in from home using the Home Learning code.
