How to use the Creative Canvas

Audience: Teachers

The Creative Canvas is a fun, easy-to-use tool that allows you to engage your students and stimulate all types of learners in the classroom!

Here's everything you can do with the Creative Canvas!

Left Side of Canvas

Trash Can: Delete and start over.
Magnifying Glass: Zoom in & out
Hide Tools: Hide creative tools from view.
Undo & Redo: Undo previous action, or revert previous action.
Label: Add a label with text.
Draw and Record: Use the synchronized Draw and Record feature.
Camera Tools: Use the Photo, Video, or Upload tools.
Teacher Toolbox: Premium tools. Add Formative Assessment questions, use Question Assistant, add Frames.
More Tools: Add shapes, backgrounds, links, or voice labels.
Caption: Caption with a text or voice description of the current page.
 

Right Side of Canvas

Save as Draft: Premium tool. Save work as draft without posting to journal or sending to teacher.
Save Final Work :Finish working on post to post to journal or send student post to teacher for approval, depending on class settings and role of user.
Hide Pages: Hide page sidebar. 
Page Options:  Duplicate current page (premium only), page settings (set page size), or access Focus Mode settings (premium Instructions & Insights only).
Color Selector: Change colors of objects on the Creative Canvas and Annotate & Draw tools.
Add a New Page: Premium only. Add a new blank page.

Bottom of Canvas

Annotate & Draw: Use the pencil, pen, highlighter, glow pen, or eraser tools.

Editing multiple objects at once

Objects on the Creative Canvas can be changed in bulk by using the multi-select tool option. To select multiple objects simply click and drag your mouse over the objects you want to change. This allows teachers to:

  • Bulk select and move a single object or group of objects, including locked objects by pressing the command key
  • Bulk select and align groups of objects to center, left, right, top or bottom.
  • Bulk select and reorder groups of objects.
  • Bulk select and change lock status on groups of objects (unlocked, lock all for students, move only).
  • Bulk select and change color on groups of objects.
  • When bulk selecting items of the same type (ex: all labels), change Styles like font, text style, border type, etc.
  • Multi-select is not supported on touch-only devices. If the device has a keyboard attached, you can hold shift and tap items to multi-select.

A Note on Accessibility

If you have a student or family member who uses assistive technologies in your class, please be sure to add alt text captions or voice captions to all multimedia posts.

When using the Creative Canvas, consider adding captions to your drawing to make it accessible.
