Class creation and setup for Seesaw Starter teachers

Ready to get started? Create your first Seesaw Starter class, add your students, and customize your classroom settings in just a few minutes.

Using a school or district subscription? Follow the instructions for subscription classrooms instead.

Create your class

  1. Open Seesaw on the web or in the app and select I'm a Teacher.
  2. Tap Create New Class.
  3. Enter a class name and choose your grade level. 
  4. Click the green ✓ to create your class.

💡 Tip: Your new class includes Sample Student, which lets you explore Seesaw before adding real students.

Add Students

💡 Seesaw Starter classes support up to 35 students

First, choose how your students will sign in:

SSO, Email, or Google Sign In (ideal for students who know their email address/password)

  • Click + Students
  • Share your Join Code
  • Students create or sign into their accounts and join the class

Text/QR Code (ideal for PreK–3 classrooms or shared devices)
Use shared QR codes 

  • Click + Students
  • Add student names
  • Print your class QR code poster
  • Students tap I'm a Student and scan the code

Next, add students to your class. You can enter student names one at a time, paste a list of student names, or import from Google Classroom.

Note: Any new students added to your Google Classroom can be synced into your Seesaw class by importing from Google Classroom again

Once complete, tap the green ✓. 


Nice work! Your class is ready now! Next, review a few classroom settings to further customize your class before your first day.
