Seesaw Schoology integration setup for Admins

🎉 The Seesaw Schoology integration allows teachers and students to easily access Seesaw activities from within Schoology. The integration links your Schoology classes to your Seesaw classes, via your existing rostering methods for both tools.

Integration Overview
  • District Admin can set up their LTI connection from District Dashboard
  • Teachers can set up their Class connections (1:1 class mapping)
  • Teachers can create assignments / search Seesaw Library in Schoology
  • Students can respond to assignments/activities in Schoology
  • Teachers can grade assignments in Gradebook in Schoology
How to Connect District (Seesaw) to Schoology

Go to the Seesaw District Dashboard to select the LMS you wish to integrate.
1. Tap District Settings on the District Dashboard.
2. Tap LMS Integration.
3. Select Schoology.
4. Tap Next.

Next, go to Schoology and log in to your Schoology account.
1. Tap on Schoology App Center.
2. Tap on My Developer Apps. (If unable to add Developer Apps, see How to Set up Developer Permissions below.)
3. Tap on Add App.

Next, complete the following information on the Add Schoology App profile.

  • App name: Seesaw
  • Description: Multimodal learning tools and engaging lessons
  • Category: Other
  • Recommended for: Instructors, Students
  • Available for: All Schoology Users
  • Type of App: Select LTI 1.3 App and check the Launch app in Schoology box
  • Can be installed for: Course Materials Selection under Courses ONLY
  • Logo:
  • Configuration Type: Manual
  • Privacy: Select the Send name and email/Username of the user who launches the tool
  • LTI Advantage Extensions: Check Deep Linking, Assignments and Grade Services, and Names and Roles Services checkboxes
  • JWKS URL: https://app.seesaw.me/.well-known/schoology.json
  • Domain URL: https://app.seesaw.me
  • OIDC Login Init URL: https://app.seesaw.me/api/lti/oidc
  • Redirect URLs: https://app.seesaw.me/api/lti/launch
  • Accept the terms of service and click SAVE at the end.

After creating the App, and before installation, Admins must set up an External Tool Provider. Make a note of Consumer Key and Consumer Secret found in the Schoology App's API Information.

1. Go to Tools > School Management > Integration > External Tools.

2. Click on Add External Tool Provider.

3. Enter the following inputs:

  • Tool Name: Seesaw LTI
  • Consumer Key: Consumer Key from API Information
  • Consumer Secret: Consumer Secret from API Information
  • Privacy: Send Name and Email/Username of user who launches the tool
  • Configuration Type: Manual
  • Match By: Domain
  • Domain/URL: https://app.seesaw.me
  • Custom Parameters: N/A

4. Click Submit.

Once submitted, click on the Seesaw App's API Info

1. Copy your Client ID.
2. Click Install LTI 1.3 App and follow the steps listed. 
3. Tap Add to Organisation
4. Return to Seesaw, go to LMS Integration in the District Settings on the District Dashboard.
5. Tap Set Up Schoology Integration.
You will see a confirmation screen.

Congratulations! Seesaw and Schoology are now integrated!

If at any point you need to locate your Client ID for the Seesaw pair process, you can do so through the Schoology Admin Dashboard.

How to Set up Developer Permissions (Optional)
If you are unable to add Developer Apps in Schoology, you'll need to perform this step to change permissions. Once permissions are changed, you can continue with the above steps.

1. In Schoology, click on Tools at the top of the page and click on User Management.

2. Click on Manage Users in the sidebar and Roles/Advanced in the section.
3. Search for your profile in the table and ensure your role is System Admin.
4. Click Save Changes.
5. Next, click Permission in the sidebar and ensure Install apps and Develop apps are checked.
6. Click Save Permissions and return to above steps How to Connect District (Seesaw) to Schoology.
