How to enable Family Syncing in Wonde

Seesaw supports students by providing an authentic audience for their work - including family members! Connecting families and getting them engaged on Seesaw is now even easier. Streamline family engagement by turning on Family Sync. During your rostering sync, Seesaw pulls in family members from Wonde and sends an invitation to connect.

Enabling Family Syncing

Ensure the right sharing settings are configured so that Seesaw can access the data.

Family data must be pre-populated when Parent Responsibility is set to true: parental_responsibility=true is a required condition for family members to sync to Seesaw from Wonde.

School/District admin cannot change any data on a family account. If the email in Wonde does not match the email in Seesaw, only the family member can update their account. 

  1. Wonde minimum permissions: 
    1. contact email read
    2. contact telephone read
    3. contact surname read
    4. contact forename read
    5. contact UPI read
    6. contact parental responsibility read
    7. contact relationship read.
  2. Seesaw will automatically pull in relevant family members (specifically where 'Parent Responsibility' is set to true) to be invited to Seesaw through the nightly roster sync. Or, you can elect to run a manual sync.
  3. Synced families will show on the School Dashboard in the Families tab. 

How to start syncing families:

  1. Login to your Administrator Account.
  2. Select District/School-Wide Settings.
  3. Select Roster Sync Settings.
  4. Toggle ON Enable family syncing by sliding the toggle to the right. The toggle will be purple if Family Syncing is ON.

Family Member Experience

Once a family member's information has been synced from Wonde, Seesaw will email the family member if they do not already have an account. 

The family member will then be directed to create a Seesaw Account and claim the student they were synced to.

If the family member already has an account, no further action is needed. 

FAQs

If a parent is connected using this method but then they need to be disconnected due to legal reasons, will that happen automatically when they are taken out of their Wonde account, or will they need to do this manually?
 

This can be done automatically, depending on the Roster Sync setting. Under the setting for 'Remove Family Members from a Student', you can choose for this to be manual or automatic with the sync. If you have chosen automatic, the family member will be removed when they are removed when the Parent Responsibility is set to false. 

If a family gets the invite but thinks it is spam and deletes it, will they have to manually invite them again, or will they continue to get invites as part of the sync until they connect?


We don't keep sending, since there is no way for us to know if they've deleted the invite or if they're just ignoring it. They would have to be added manually through the org dashboard.

What happens if Family Access is turned off by the teacher or school?


If Family Access is disabled by the teacher/school, the family will remain connected to their student, but they will not see any classes or student work.

When will the invitation be sent to the family members? 


Invitations will be sent at the time of your recurring Sync. If you would like invitations to be sent at a specific time, please keep your sync paused until then, then run a full sync. 

After you have started your sync, if a family member is added, they will receive an invitation during your nightly sync run time.
