How to sign in for remote learning

👤 Audience: Teachers

To complete activities at home and post student work, pupils will need access to the Seesaw app or they will need to sign in as a student from app.seesaw.me from a computer. Families can use the Seesaw app to view their child’s work and announcements sent by the teacher. Family accounts cannot respond to Activities or post directly to a student journal.

If your pupils sign in with email addresses/SSO

The best way for pupils to access Seesaw from home is with an email address or via SSO.

  • If pupils are using tablet or phone devices for home learning, they will need to download the Seesaw app onto their device.
  • If they already have the Seesaw app on a home device, they will need to UPDATE the app for home learning codes to work.
  • Students can access the latest version of Seesaw from any computer at app.seesaw.me.

Students will stay signed into their account for 1 year if logging in via email. How long pupils stay signed into their accounts if they log in via Clever/ClassLink SSO depends on your Clever/ClassLink settings.

Home Learning Code (if pupils don't use email)

If your pupils do not sign in with an email address, we recommend they sign in with a Home Learning Code. Home learning codes allow pupils to sign in to Seesaw, view their journal, add posts, complete activities, and receive class announcements from their teachers. Students do not see the work of other pupils in the class.

Home Learning Codes will remain active for one year.

If you have a subscription to Seesaw your school administrator will need to turn on this feature. Please contact your school administrators (Principal, Technology Coordinator, etc.) directly. Please check out how Administrators can support remote learning here.

  • If pupils are using tablet or phone devices for home learning, they will need to download the Seesaw app onto their device.
  • If they already have the Seesaw app on a home device, they will need to update the app for home learning codes to work.
  • Students can also access the latest version of Seesaw from any computer at app.seesaw.me.
  1. Sign in as a teacher from the web and tap the wrench icon. Home Learning Codes can only be generated from a computer.
  2. Tap Home Learning Student Codes.

  3. Print or Download codes to distribute to pupils. Each student will have a unique QR code and a 16-letter text code available as a PDF (one page per student) or CSV (by class or for all pupils taught by a teacher) that is valid for one year. Teachers can get a new code at any time.
  4. You do not need to change your class sign-in mode.

Once signed in, a student will stay signed in for up to one year until they sign out. If a student code is compromised, you can reset the code for the student or the entire class under the wrench icon>Home Learning Codes.

Students can sign in with Home Learning codes with the instructions below

  1. If pupils are using tablet or phone devices for home learning, they will need to download the Seesaw app onto their device. If they already have the Seesaw app on a home device, they will need to UPDATE the app for home learning codes to work. Students can also access the latest version of Seesaw from any computer at app.seesaw.me.
  2. Go to the Seesaw app or app.seesaw.me and select I am a student.
  3. Type in the 16 digit text code or scan the individualised QR code.

If pupils are already using their email addresses to sign into Seesaw, they can continue to do so from home.

To ensure student work remains private at home, make sure to tap the wrench icon in your teacher account and toggle 'pupils can see each other's work' OFF. This way pupils can only access their own posts and are unable to look at other pupils' work.
If pupils are spending some time in the classroom and some time at home

When pupils are working at home, they need to sign in with their individualised Home Learning Code, email, Clever/ClassLink SSO.

When pupils are in the classroom, they can sign in with their Class Code, email, or through Clever/ClassLink SSO. The Class Code should only be used in the physical classroom. To protect student privacy, the Class Code should not be sent home with pupils to sign in from home. Students who do not sign in via email/SSO should sign in from home using the Home Learning Code.

If pupils are sharing the same device with a sibling at home:

If pupils are sharing a device, then the first student will need to log OUT before a second student can log IN.
