Creative tools are designed to empower students to think creatively and better demonstrate their learning! You and your students can add a photo, video, drawing, file, note, or link to any Seesaw classroom using these tools in the Creative Canvas.
Teachers and students can record voice or add an audio file on any label, image, or shape on their Creative Canvas! If you have a student or family member who uses assistive technologies in your class, please be sure to add captions or voice captions to all multimedia posts.
Creative tools can be found by tapping the green +Add button in your class Feed View.
Students who tap the plus sign will be taken directly to the creative tools.
Teachers who tap the plus sign will be given the option to "post to student journal." Once this is tapped, they will be taken to the creative tools.
The photo tool allows students to take pictures of their work. When you tap the photo tool you will be able to take a photo using your device to add directly to Seesaw. Make sure you "allow" camera access when prompted!
You can use this tool to:
- Add images of student work
- Document experiences
- Simultaneously draw and record audio
The video tool allows students to take videos. When you tap the video tool, you will be prompted to "select or drop a file" or "record a video." This means students can upload an already created video OR record one live to add to their journal.
You can use this tool to:
- Record reflections

Helpful features allow you to:
- Use drawing, labels, shapes and more on top of your video
- Resize your video to fill part of your canvas, making space for creating other content alongside the video
- Premium users can have one video on each page of a multipage post so that you can mix and match video pages with pages containing other types of content
The drawing tool allows students to create digital artwork. When you tap the drawing tool, you will be shown a blank canvas on which to create your work. There are a variety of drawing, photo, and labeling tools to choose from, as well as a full rainbow of colors to make your creation your own!
Helpful features allow you to:
- Simultaneously draw and record audio
- Add a photo collage
- Show what you know
- Add backgrounds and shapes using the ... tool
- Create art with expressive pens
Premium users are able to:
- Record across multiple pages of a multipage post
- Create a single video that showcases all of your pages
Keep in mind canvases can be challenging for users who utilise assistive technologies, so consider using a different tool or adding a caption or voice caption to your drawing to make it accessible. Learn how to do so here!
