Once you’ve enabled voice to text, you can utilise it anywhere in Seesaw where you would write something! You can dictate comments on student work, reply to messages, or even write notes or add text to drawings on the Creative Canvas! Follow the below steps to use speech-to-text or dictation features in Seesaw!
To turn on dictation on your iOS device:
- Navigate to Settings > General > Keyboard.
- Toggle ON Enable Dictation.
To use dictation on iOS, tap the microphone icon on the onscreen keyboard, then start speaking. When adding punctuation, make sure you say the punctuation out loud. For more information about using dictation on iOS, go here.
To turn on dictation on your Mac computer/laptop:
- Navigate to System Preferences > Keyboard.
- Tap the Dictation tab, then turn dictation ON.
- From the pop-up window, tap Enable Dictation to confirm.
To use dictation on Mac, tap the Edit menu of the window you’re typing in, then tap Start Dictation. When adding punctuation, make sure you say the punctuation out loud.
There are two ways to use voice typing on Windows:
- On a hardware keyboard, tap the Windows logo key + H. To stop using voice typing, say a voice command such as “Stop listening.”
- On a touch keyboard, tap the microphone icon. To stop using voice typing, say a voice command such as “Stop listening,” or tap the microphone icon again.

To turn on voice input on your Android device:
- Navigate to Settings > General Management > Keyboard list and default.
- Toggle ON Samsung voice input and Google voice input (or Google voice typing on a tablet).
- When the touch keyboard appears on the screen, select the microphone button next to the navigation bar at the bottom of your device. From this menu, you can choose to use Samsung’s native voice input or Google’s voice input to turn speech into text.
- Tap the microphone icon to start recording your speech. To stop using voice typing, tap the microphone icon again.
When adding punctuation, make sure you say the punctuation out loud.

At the bottom right, select the time or press Alt + Shift + s.

Select Settings Accessibility.

Under "Keyboard and text input," turn on Dictation.
To use dictation on a Chromebook, tap or select where you want to type. Select Speak . You can speak to enter text in most places you type. You can even add common punctuation when you say "comma," "period," "question mark," "exclamation mark," or "exclamation point."
