Audience: Teachers with School and District subscriptions
As teachers review student work, they have the ability to grade standards. This data is aggregated for their class and can be viewed in the Gradebook, which can be used to monitor progress across standards at the class or student level.
New to Standards? Get started with our Standards overview!
- Seesaw recommends grading when you are approving work to save time.
- Students and family members do not see the tagged standards or the rating.
- Standards and grading are visible to teachers and Admins only.
- Track student progress from the Standards View in the Gradebook.
Note: If a Standard is added to an Activity during creation, but the Activity is assigned to a class in a different year group than the Standard is linked to, the Standard(s) will need to be added back to the Activity during the assign flow.
How to grade against Standards
- After student work is submitted, tap Review at the bottom of the post.

- Tap Clear to remove the grade.
- Tap the green tick.
- The new grade will now be reflected in the Gradebook.
Archiving Standards
Seesaw will systematically update Standards as new and updated Standards become available. These updates occur when Standards are out of date due to the adoption of newer standards or are no longer being used by the state/country.
Users will see a small red triangle with an exclamation mark in it if a Standard has been archived.
- The standards that were previously connected to activities will remain connected to those activities; they just cannot be connected to any new activities going forward.
- These archived standards will no longer appear in the standards tagging flow.
- Activities with archived standards that have already been assigned can still be graded using the scale that corresponds to the standard.
- Hovering over the standards allows you to read the standard, which could help with identifying the new replacement standard. To remove a standard from the activity, click the X next to it; this will remove it from the activity.
