Student notifications for teacher comments (returned work)

We need an added feature that makes it EASY for students to find and view comments a teacher leaves on their work. Particularly when a student needs to correct their work (or even just complete it). Even on laptops and iPads the students cannot easily see a comment left by a teacher, so they're not fixing their work. Add a feature (perhaps like an exclamation mark) that allows students to view/listen to comments on their returned work.

  • Yes! This is so important. Great having the send back feature, but at the moment 'edit students' work is too time consuming as we get send to the journal after editing, so the easiest way is to leave a comment, but the student needs to be sure to see it and be able to see the assignment at the same time.

  • Yes! This is incredibly important because it is too difficult to keep track of who needs corrections and students can't find the activities that need correcting.  Can it be one of the folders under: done, in progress, to do, ?????

  • Yes please. I didn’t realize it was so hard for the students to find my audio comments. I wondered why two of them keep sending the work back with nothing done to it.

  • Yes, please, I love the ability to leave voice comments but need them to be easy to find for students and parents so corrections can be made.

  • Yes.  I agree with all comments left so far.

  • For schools that are all virtual and using Seesaw as their learning management system there has got to be a way for the kids to easily see our comments for work that is "sent back". Having them go into inbox and notifications to see the comment left for them is absurd. There should be a notification on the assignment - or have the comment highlighted in yellow - something!

  • I didn't realize how difficult it was for them to find the comment I was leaving. They were easy for me to write, but not for them to get. So I have switched to clicking Edit activity to write on their actual pages with the pen or text tool. This would be a great change to not have to open each activity if it is a quick fix through a comment.

  • I never realized that it wasn't very easy for my students to see my comments on returned work. Please make this easier for students to see since teacher comments are an essential part of any classroom and Seesaw is our current “classroom” during distance learning.

  • YES!!!!!  I think when we send work back to them they NEED to be able to see what is sent back AND the comment that we leave in the SAME PLACE>  They should get a notification that they have work that was sent back and then the comments are right there with that assignment.

Teachers also need a place to see replies to comments on student work.  They get stacked in my work to be reviewed.  When I am reviewing work from 40 students i look at assignments by the activity so then I am missing comments that parents or students make on assignments.  Some of my voice comments cut in and out and it makes me sound like a robot.  I don't know why it ONLY does it on comments not when I am recording assignments.  Parents or students comment and say they can't hear it but I don't see their reply because it gets buried with all of the assignments to be graded.

  • I would agree that it is hard for the students to find the comments especially when the work is returned. I need them to have a notification sent to them or have the comments show up when they have work in progress. This leads to another thing having a place for returned work so they would know what is returned and what is still in draft mode they are working on.

  • Never mind the students not being able to find my comments on assignments, I can't even find them when a student shares their screen. What is the point of having a comments feature if the students have no access to the comments and therefore have no way to get feedback? Please fix this because it is holding students back from important learning.

  • Please update the platform to include this function. This is a critical piece that, left unaddressed, is leading to frustrated learners, families, and educators. Thank you in advance.

  • Yes, please add this feature. I am spending hours each day uploading a photo that says "Look at Me" Bitmoji to the first slide then using the recording feature to explain to students what they need to fix. It's been driving me nuts and I only had to teach my 21 students virtually for 4 days. My 6- and 7-year-olds just keep sending the work back to me.

  • Yes, please change this.  It should be simple to find, as soon as you log in to Seesaw and see the student work.  Our youngest learners K-2 and families, are having a hard time finding these comments and teachers are spending hours grading and posting comments.  Students are missing out on important learning.  Thanks

  • Yes, please. I leave comments on student work before returning it to them, but they are very often not seeing the comment and so they do not understand why it was sent back. They need to be able to view the comment before going back to edit again.

I made this video for my students to try and help them find returned work and comments (I teach kindergarten), but only 45-50% of my kids can do it. For the rest of my kids, I have to Edit, make a video or voice comment explaining what to do, then put it somewhere the kid will see it. It takes a lot of time.
Faster and easier access, especially for our pre-reader students, would save families, kids, and teachers a lot of time and frustration.

  • It would be nice for older students to be able to get an email notification when a comment is added to their work in Seesaw.  Our district makes everyone use Google Classroom but I link all Seesaw activities to the GC assignment.  I find that students are missing comments in Seesaw because the don't always scroll through Seesaw the way they should and sending an email to the address they are signed up with might get them to do this more and see the comments.

  • Why wouldn't I want students to see my comments on work i sent back....
I didn't know until halfway through the year students could only see my comments on work that was sent back by clicking on notifications
Most of my students were never looking at notifications because seesaw seems to make everything notification.

  • Yes, an intuitive way for students to be able to see comments would be great. Too many steps to find them right now.

  • 100% agree with this. My kids don't realize they have comments frmo me half the time. It then seems pointless that I'm taking so much time to make these corrections/edits, and the students are even viewing them. If it was a bit more kid-friendly to see (or more importantly, hear) these comments, I think they would be making the corrections way more often!

  • As a teacher I noticed this was a problem.  But I didn't realize how big of a problem it was until my own children, who are in a first grade virtual class, were missing their teacher's feedback.  Scrolling through their journal of MANY activities that they do each day to try to find the comment is unrealistic for young students to do.  And editing the student's activity post to put the feedback in their activity so they actually get it, is unrealistically time consuming.  But I find as a teacher, if I don't do this, most students do not get their feedback.  This is a big problem that seems like a simple fix would solve.

  • it is so frustrating for kids not to be able to see those comments and make corrections.. It is a waste of time for me to even make them.

  • Yes! It would be so great to be able to leave comments on student work without the many steps process of editing a post. I love the idea of an icon like an exclamation mark being really visible/obvious to students for when their teacher leaves comments. Thanks!

  • It should work like Facebook, where you get a notification, you tap on the comment, then it takes you to the original post where you can interact with it. Currently, in the student view, if they tap on the teacher comment, it gives them a preview of their post, but they can't open or edit it. They open the journal tab, scroll down to the assignment that they saw a preview of in the inbox tab, and edit post or whatever they need to do. That's a lot for a kid to remember. Tapping on the notification should take them to the original post.

  • This would be an excellent feature for our learners to have more independence in their access of communication. I love the voice feature so I can leave audio comments for my students to hear. This would allow them to know about feedback for excellent work as well as when corrections are needed. This would be especially helpful in the blended learning and virtual classroom settings.
