Default to grabber tool when opening an assignment not pen

As a teacher when I go in to edit a students work or resize a tiny picture, I instinctually go to grab it right off. I end up leaving a blue mark and have to undo it since it defaults to the pen tool instead of the grabber. I also end up seeing random blue marks on activity slides from kids most likely from the same reason.

  • Yes. In general, we default to moving items before annotation. Starting there let's students choose which writing tool is best.

  • Absolutely! I'm tired of undoing blue dots on student work because I forgot it was in pen mode.

  • Was going to ask the same thing!!! This drives me crazy! Almost always using the move tool and not the pen tool! Please make this a priority- may seem little, but when you are making so many activities a day, it gets frustrating after a while and slows ya down!

  • Agreed.  You'd think I would have learned by now, but I do this at least once in every ten assignments.  As my students typically get 5 assignments a day, it gets quite annoying.  It's not my biggest issue and it is easy to fix, but it is regularly irritating and probably is an easier thing to code differently than the upgrades I really want.

  • Please, oh, please!  This may sound silly, but with the digital learning curve many of us are on, those small annoyances - like making a blue mark rather than moving an object, having to erase, change to the grabber tool and try again - feels like a much bigger issue than it actually is - but it still feels that way!

In the creation of lessons, I rarely use the writing tool.  I am almost always using the grabber tool.

  • OMG! I am so glad that so many of us are frustrated with this update. One little accidental click and you end up with blue dots on the post. How did they miss this one?

I agree that most people would be using the selection grabber tool way more than the pen tool.

  • Yes! The grabber tool is also first in the row of tools along the bottom, so it seems like it would make the. most sense to have that as the default tool.

  • better yet, how about the ability to customize WHICH tool to default too? Or even which tools to allow kids to see? That glo-pen is too tempting.

  • As other people have said this seems like such a small issue but it drives me mad and just adds extra time since I almost always start off with the grabber and not the pen.  Also the grabber is first on the list of tools so it would make more sense to me that it comes first.

  • Absolutely, my first grade students get so lost with the tools right off the bat, and it decreases engagement.

  • I would add the ability to customize default colors of all the tools and save them as user defaults, or at least the ability to “favorite” some tools so you don’t have to use the color slider every time you want to find the PERFECT GREEN 😉!
