Clever Syncing with Seesaw

We have purchased Seesaw for Schools for K-2 Teachers.  Put Seesaw in Clever.  Our SIS is syncing with Clever and it looks like Seesaw is now syncing with Clever.  In the instructions from Seesaw it states that I need to log in to my Seesaw District Dashboard to click on the "Manage Roster Sync."  Why?  Do I need to do this if using Clever.

Plus, we do not have all our sections in our SIS.  Adding more daily.  Will they just update from SIS to Clever to Seesaw?

Any help would be VERY MUCH appreciated since Seesaw does not provide telephone support and when I email them I keep getting more tutorials (up to 8 now) which do not answer my questions.

Thanks.

  • Julia,

You and I are on the same sinking ship today.  I have this EXACT same problem.

  • I think the purpose is to have a secondary failsafe if Clever data from SIS is not accurate yet. It allows you to tell Seesaw when to accept the data from Clever. I agree, it is very confusing though. Most other platforms don't require this. The issue I am having is when I try to turn on sync on Seesaw it fails!!!

    They need phone support.

  • I have this question as well.

In the instructions from Seesaw it states that I need to log in to my Seesaw District Dashboard to click on the "Manage Roster Sync."

I would be happy to do that except I can't find that place to click! I have been through our dashboard so many times and can't see where that is.

I put in a ticket this morning and I feel like this is probably an easy fix. My teachers are frantic!

  • Kris, I was missing this as well.  Once Seesaw activated it, I was able to move forward, but we scrambled in the 11th hour.

  • When you log in as ADMIN, you should come to your main District Dashboard.  On that screen there is a button for MANAGE ROSTER SYNC.  Apparently, your SIS syncs with Clever and Clever syncs with Seesaw.  But you need to run the Roster Sync in Seesaw for Seesaw to pull the information from Clever.  I believe it "starts" the process of Clever syncing with Seesaw.  I was told you don't have to do this again unless you make changes.  Not sure what "changes" they mean.

Cannot believe an education software company has no telephone support.  With all the districts purchasing Seesaw this school year, they should hire for phone support.

  • Michele Goshko...I was making myself crazy looking for something that wasn't there. They hadn't activated my dashboard. The key word Julia is you "should" come to your main district dashboard. The part circled in red was the part I didn't have. So...if others are having this issue...your main district dashboard should be at the top of your list of schools. Mine is slightly indented. Good luck everyone! This is going to be a year of adventures!

  • Glad you got it Kris.  Yes, it took a while for mine to be active also.

One step and one day at a time and we get more questions answered.

  • How exactly do you request this to be activated?

We don't have this button "MANAGE ROSTER SYNC" anywhere. I spent hours trying to find it, and we are in very bad shape if this isn't fixed within the next 24 hours.

  • Thanks Kris - but I don't know if I went to the right place. Is this page where one might do that?

    https://help.seesaw.me/hc/en-us/requests/new

I'm having a very hard time finding support and want to put the request in the correct place, so appreciate any tips to where one submits a help desk ticket.

    thank you!

  • I think Seesaw has to activate you for that to show up.

Can I just say how much time I am spending on trying to figure Seesaw out.  It is a nightmare and the fact that we cannot get support is not good.

  • Anyone have Clever and Seesaw syncing?  We have it syncing but when I try to go into Clever and then click on Seesaw as a student, it takes me literally 4 to 5 attempts to get it to log me in the first time.  Anyone having the same issue?  Also when I log in as a Teacher, I thought all the teachers classes were supposed to be in Seesaw.  There are NO classes.  So, do Teachers have to create their own classes?  If so, why am I syncing with Clever?  We need a Clever/Seesaw expert.  Crazed and desperate.  Teachers are getting so upset with Seesaw and I feel so helpless because I cannot help them.

  • I too never had the sync roster for the District option and was making myself crazy trying to find it. Seesaw had to turn it on after 10 or more SOS emails to support with URGENT in the subject line. Then came the canned replies.  I am livid that I could never get a live person for a simple activation on their end.  We are syncing with Clever @Julia Colby. You have to assign your sharing rules in Clever once the SeeSaw app says launched. THEN run your roster sync.  Make sure your teachers do not rename their classrooms as the sections are tied to the SIS.  I lost MANY hours setting this up over the last week and it was not till the 11th hour that I got it partially running. Even now I am tweaking settings and sections, but most homerooms are working.  It was a nightmare and if the product wasn't so good, I would never recommend working with this company.

  • I am a building Seesaw admin (not a district admin).  We didn't know about the issue with class names, so some of my teachers renamed their classes and did a bunch of work with parent messaging and such yesterday.  Apparently, when it synced last night, Clever looked at the teacher-edited class names, looked at our SIS,  and decided the classes didn't match.  It then archived all the classes teachers had done the work in and created new ones with the SIS class names.  Ooof.

I get why it created new classes, but I don't understand why it auto-archived the existing classes that didn't match.  I'm hoping we can change the names of classes in our SIS to match what we want to happen in Seesaw and let it do its thing.  Am I missing something?

My other question is whether or not I can use CSV roster importing to cover some of our specials that don't appear in our SIS.  Does anyone know if this is possible?  I'd rather not build special classes in Clever to do this.  We're small enough that I'd rather make the changes locally as needed.

And I agree wholeheartedly with people's gripes about the support level.  As a paying district, we should have more ready assistance when we need it.  That is a standard part of district pricing in most every other platform.
