Assignments without work submission

It would be really helpful to be able to post an assignment, but choose if students have to submit work or not. There have been several times where I just wanted students to do an activity on their own and not necessarily submit anything back to me, but if they didn't submit anything it remained unfinished on their end. Just leaving it as unfinished could not only be stressful for students to see that number climbing but also lead to confusion between what really is unfinished or not.

  • Great idea, I completely agree!

Another option would be if they updated the calendar functionality so it included check boxes to help kids keep track of if they "completed" an activity (by clicking the check), regardless of whether or not it required a product for submission.

  • I would LOVE this option.

  • AGREE! Today I wanted them to go play a math game and I posted the link and parents and students were so confused how to turn in the work. I tried explaining the did not need to submit anything but they were still confused.

  • Yes, I agree this would be helpful.  Even if it was just a check box to acknowledge the activity was completed.

  • The other teachers in my year group and myself were talking about this today. We had been deleting some of the submissions to these sort of activities but then a parent complained the activities kept reappearing in the child's to do list. We didn't realise this would happen! But these are things we don't want them to have in their journals. Having the option to disallow submissions would be great!

  • I believe that there needs to be some sort of option for this as well.

  • This would be so helpful! I feel like one way or the other the teacher (a hack around this in our class has been to submit a text box with something like "I watched the video"), or the student is getting overwhelmed currently (we're not even a month in and have 30+ "incomplete" assignments already for our 2nd graders).  Would love to see some sort of equivalent to "Mark as Read".  Perhaps a button that says "Completed" that's available in addition to, or in lieu of "Add Response" depending on the teacher's need?

  • Please add some sort of “acknowledged” button, currently the only alternative is to either (1) let “to dos” pile up, or (2) send bogus responses, both of which are quite ridiculous.

  • I totally agree!

I use seesaw to link to other sites like flipgrid where I want students to do their assignments. I want to be able to submite links on seesaw without having students do their assignment on the platform

  • This would be helpful for me too as a counselor where many things I want students to do are not "required" and I don't want to add to their number of assignments not completed.
