Special permission Tier for Teacher Assistants/Aides/Paraprofessionals

Hi all

we work as a special school and we have up to three Teacher Aides in each class. We would really like to have a special permission tier for them. We can't set them up as teachers or students as neither set really works...

TA's access Seesaw through the class app, but during lockdown, they could not see what was posted (as we had strong privacy settings) and if they comment their name does not appear with the comment.

We would love for them to have access to seesaw, but with different permissions to teachers/students and with teacher supervision.

We think it could look sth like this:

TA's can

  • have their own login and name appear when the teacher approves a post
  • see all the posts in class like a teacher (without having to set the class to "students can view each other's work")
  • be able to post but only with teacher approval (like a student)
  • be unable to communicate with parents or see teacher/parent comments
  • be unable to approve anything
  •

So basically functionality-wise we would like their tier to be a student account that can see all the posts :-)

What do you think?

Kind regards form NZ

Monika

  • I also work in a special education setting and we had a very hard time effectively utilizing assistants while maintaining privacy settings during the stay at home order. As remote learning is likely to be a possibility at least for periods of time throughout this school year, this would be a tremendously helpful addition! Assistants are a vital part of the classroom community and this would significantly increase engagement and support for all.

  • Thank you for your support Meghan. We have 2-3 per class full time, and they are all really supportive and we would love to be able for them to help with posts and feel part of it ...

  • I echo the comments above.  I'm working to develop a task list for our paraprofessionals during virtual learning.  We currently have them in as co-teachers but I would feel more comfortable with some other designation as a teaching assistant or education assistant.

  • This is very much needed. Teaching remotely with 2-3 paraprofessionals.  They need to be able to assist students in turning in their work.

  • I need this feature to be added, as well, if I continue to use Seesaw.  My aide is not a credentialed teacher nor does she have a student in the class for parent access to work.  It is actually a legal liability for her to have the same permissions as a teacher but without granting her access to the class platform her usefulness as an aide is severely limited.

  • I completely agree. We have student teachers at the minute who need access to a teacher account due to creating remote learning lessons. However, this gives them full access to send messages to parents, send announcements, remove work and approve adults to children’s journals. It just isn’t safe at all.

  • I would like to support the previous posts. We would also like our TA's to have access to their classes but with this special permission tier.

  • I would also like to echo the above comments. We have upto 4 special needs assistants per class in our school and a seperate account tier would be really useful.

  • It would be especially useful to have this permission tier now we are in lockdown again - we would really like our teaching assistants to be part of our classroom while we are working with our students remotely...
