Music & Audio Files

It would be great to be able to upload audio files - at the moment can do photos, docs and video, but not audio??

I have often needed to provide music/sound effects etc as prompts for my lessons. So I had to create a 'video' with a static picture or blank screen and upload the 'video'. Not efficient.

  • Yes, as music teachers, we need to be able to upload an audio file easily!

  • I hope this feature will be added.  Would like to have the ability to add an audio file for music listening activities.

  • Another music teacher here. I've been getting students to put their audio files into iMovie and adding an image then exporting that as an mp4 which can be uploaded but it is a huge amount of work and really inconvenient and time consuming. Hopefully Seesaw allows mp3 or wav files to be uploaded directly. I don't really understand why this isn't already a feature.

  • The process of converting=I am moving files from audacity to adobe premiere pro to create videos is painfully time-consuming. If the concern is copyright, an algorithm allowing the percentage of the whole could allow for an educational "clip." Thus protecting the teacher and the platform while conforming to copyright laws. I know this has been the concern for google and other media. If Seesaw could rectify this, many music teachers would be elated.

  • PLEASE! Allow audio files. I am a 2nd-grade teacher working on reading fluency. I post a passage for students to practice and then record themselves, but I would like to have an audio button for them to listen to me read it first.

  • Adrian, there is a new feature being released very soon that will allow you upload audio files from your computer.  They are finalizing this feature now and hope to release it in a few weeks.

  • I'm having the same issue.  I want to put a play button on a page, have it play just audio (not video) and have the kids draw a response.  I tried mp3, mp4, but seesaw did not accept either one.  I found an old video on youtube from 2016 of a music teacher uploading an mp3, but it doesn't work now :(  Anyone find a way around this??

  • Same! Mp4's will not load to SeeSaw. I get an error msg every time. We need to be able to add a recording to an assignment for young children to sing, move, and play to WHILE they record video of themselves doing it.

Please! It's one of the only ways we can assess in our remote environment. Thank you.

  • Ditto to all these comments!  So frustrating not to be able to upload an mp3.  I will try the imovie idea with the lyrics as the visual, but this is far from simple. I'm super surprised uploading an audio file is not already possible.

  • As a Kindergarten teacher, I would like to be able to attach a sound clip of me saying a word that the student could then manipulate another object on the screen.  An example might be moving a circle to the word circle, which had a sound file attached of me saying "circle."  This would help those of us with non-readers so much!

  • Plus one for adding audio files to a Seesaw page.

Can't believe this isn't available yet. So critical, not just for music teachers. Also language teachers and any other teacher with a bank of audio files that they want to use.

  • I was able to get it to work using this site. https://www.oneimagevideo.com/ It takes one image file and one audio file and makes it into a video. I'm going to try to do a book cover image and add audio of a chapter. I'm not sure about the limits. Hopefully it will work for that purpose. :) I would love for seesaw to add the option to upload a recording!

  • PLEASE do this. I want to be able to drop an audio file onto a page. So frustrating already having the audio files I need, but Seesaw requiring me to rerecord all of them just for their platform. Not user friendly at all.

  • I tried converting an mp3 to an mp4 using Zamzar. But Seesaw didn't let me upload or attach it. :(

  • Here is what I am doing now to get around this issue. I have noticed trying to convert an mp3 to mp4 and then uploading doesn't work. Maybe someone has figured it out, but I haven't.  So, I am using a simple screen recording software that I know will produce a real mp4 video that I can watch with a media player.  I use screencastomatic. Yep, crazy name. There is a free version and then there are paid versions. I use the deluxe. It is cheap enough and the upload is pretty quick. Open it up. Record your screen. You can adjust the recording area and show the wave form or picture on your screen. Record the computer sound and turn off your microphone. When you are done, save it as an mp4 file. Once I have that honest to goodness video, it will upload. I have done listening examples this way and added clips of myself at the piano with the webcam. Both have worked. I go into seesaw, add an activity. If the video is the entire assignment, I upload that at the beginning. If I want little embedded videos, I upload some basic background or graphic. Then once my template is created I click on the camera and upload the video from my computer onto that background. I hope this helps someone....and hope they fix it so we can use mp3.

  • Thanks for the +1!  I heard a rumor that there will be an update to this in February.  Crossing fingers...

  • Follow-up comment:

I was able to use Screencastify, with a reading passage on my screen, to record myself reading the passage. I then uploaded my Screencastify video into the Seesaaw template for the student. I resized it to fit in the upper corner. (see screenshot)

  • Hi Eric, I'm wondering what the status of uploading audio files is at this point. Thanks so much!

  • Hello!

You can upload MP3, M4a or WAV files to Seesaw.  You can also upload audio and attach it to an object in the creative canvas.  To do this, when you put in an object such as a picture or text box, tap the 3 dots under it and choose "add audio".  You can upload audio (less than 5 minutes) and you will see a speaker icon attached to the object that will play the audio.

  • I know so many staff members in my district who are excited for this new audio feature!

Does anyone know the best way to download the audio files from Seesaw assignments? I know music teachers in my district have students record themselves and would like to harvest the audio from Seesaw so they can compile a piece using recordings from multiple students.

Thank you for any guidance that can be offered!

  • Thank you for the feedback!

In the meantime, I know that some teachers that are uploading audio files are converting them to MP4 before uploading which seems to work.  There are many free file conversion apps available.
