Links to Seesaw Activities

Not being able to directly link to Seesaw activities through schedules embedded in Seesaw, and through connected apps like Google Classroom (even when the accounts are both signed in) is close to a deal breaker for us when it comes to continuing with Seesaw. Is this a feature that will be added to Seesaw sometime in the near future.

Student links to specific activities are available! Tap the [...] on any activity that has been shared to your class to get a student link. This link will take them straight to the activity on web, iOS or Android app.

  • Thank you for the feedback!  We do look at all feature requests and take your input seriously.

While we can't address every request right away, our product team reviews our customer request log routinely as we plan our product roadmap.

  • I also would like to request the ability to link Seesaw activities for students for use in LMS like Schoology.

  • Yes.  This was a main source of confusion for my students and families during distance learning.  All of the other resources we used had direct links.  The parents could not figure out why they had to go the the Seesaw log-in every time and search through the activities.  If our students log into Seesaw with their Google accounts, it would be nice to provide a direct link to the activity also through Google Classroom so that they do not have to log in again.

  • So I'm guessing we need to post something like, "Please check your seesaw journal for activities to complete." in our google classrooms. Like others have mentioned, what students see when they click on the provided link is very confusing.

  • Yes! Would love the student links to activities for our daily agenda, created within Seesaw.

  • The activities are not user friendly for the little students I teach. I wish that the activities would go on the wall once you assigned them or on the day they were assigned so the parents as well as the students would get notification. I wish that I could embed the activity without Seesaw assuming that the user is a teacher. With remote learning, it's essential! PLEASE put this at the top of your list.

  • Misleading when you say that google classroom links with seesaw activities when it does not. hopefully we as teachers practice integrity when we try to promote something for educating younger minds. so much for being fooled/lured/mislead. hope this feature can be useful as desired by most educators/clients.

  • I appreciate the student links that allow me to connect Seesaw (which I LOVE!) to Schoology (adopted by district).  However, when I enter the link in Schoology, it takes me to a login page for my students.  Is this a one-time login?

  • Jennifer Rogers - Yes, they'll need to sign in once and then they'll be signed in for the whole school year. Here's information about student sign in: https://help.seesaw.me/hc/en-us/articles/203495019-How-do-students-sign-in-to-Seesaw-

  • Hi Emily,

I'm a parent and trying to deal with teachers who are new to SeeSaw. Parents can't rely 100% on teachers. I'm trying to create a link directly to an Activity Detail Page. Right now "I" can't do this as the url for the Activity List and Activity Detail are the same. That's because the detail page is a model and I see it's a core design element.

Re: your comment from 8/3, are you saying that teachers have the ability to create a direct link to the activity detail page?  And if so, why don't parents have access to the link in their view?

Right now, (...) only gives me the choice to print activity. Why not add an option for direct link?

  • Samir Patel - Thanks for sharing this perspective! We do let teachers get a direct link, but have not exposed that option for students or family members yet. Can you tell me a little more about what you want to do with the direct activity link so we can make sure it works for your desired use case?

  • Hi Emily,

Thanks for your prompt response and curiosity. As a parent, I need to create a daily schedule. My 1st and 2nd grader get schedules from their teachers across formats (.pdf, google docs, sometimes both). The schedule arrives in table format Sunday evening for the week. In order to streamline the process for my kids and remove the friction around:

    • what to do on a given day
    • at what times
    • how to get there
    • where to submit (see saw activity, journal, other)

To avoid all that confusion, I (manually) create a schedule for the day in Google Doc and bookmark it to my kids chrome browser for easy access.

This is essentially a copy/paste, clean up formatting exercise from what the teacher delivers and what I create. When the teacher links to SeeSaw, it often goes to the seesaw homepage and I need it to link to the specific activity. Going to the homepage is confusing because (a) it's not ordered (b) has no due dates (c) old activity remain there (d) multiple teachers are posted there, etc...

My goal is for my kids to be self-sufficient (to the extent they can). Going to an inbox of SeeSaw activities leads to more confusion and then they cry out for the parent to help. Then the parents are confused because the instructions in the.doc file don't match the SeeSaw Title and this frustrates the entire family.

By creating my own schedule, I have more control and direct links are necessary so that there's no confusion on which assignment needs to get done.

Note: I login to SeeSaw using my kids account (not a parent account). Therefore my ask is for Kids to be able to access direct links to an activity

Also, while you build this feature out and push it live, is there a work around we can use?

  • Not sure if you found my response helpful - let me know you've received it and if you require more details.  In the meantime, is there a help page to show teachers how to direct link to an activity? I would like to share it with my teachers.

    thx

  • Teachers need to be able to link activities into a one page "schedule" created in seesaw instead of assigning all the activities to all students. This is essential for our young students- some of who are attending live class, and for those who do not attend live class and need to access the missed material.

We are using Seesaw to provide similar lessons to students who missed our live zoom.  We don't want to assign every student the lessons because it clutters up their feed and families aren't sure what was covered in the live zoom and what needs to be completed. We have no idea who will show up to the live zoom each day, so our schedule page has links to seesaw activities for kids to complete on their own if they miss the zoom. We tell kids to skip those links if they attend live zoom, but do them if they miss the zoom. We are able to link youtube videos and other resources, but not seesaw activities! Example below:

    https://app.seesaw.me/pages/shared_activity?share_token=iRMy-uKHQpeYWTAVuJCCkw&prompt_id=prompt.709d44eb-7bc8-4bd9-a3d5-83e858184db0

  • Given the lack of response from the product team, they are either work on it or discussing issues it may introduce. While they work that out, there's a workaround. You can find the internal ID of the activity and link to it like so:

    https://app.seesaw.me/a/<<internal ID>>

In the image below, you will see the page source code and activity I'm interested in linking to highlighted. The internal ID of the activity is 55de4e5e-17ad-48e8-9664-d3bcf2cc6ddc

So this would be the direct link.

  • I'm confused as to what you are trying to accomplish. You can get direct links to student activities. Once you assign activities to a class, while under your activities tab, click the 3 dots (...). You can "get student link" which is a direct link to provide your students to the assigned Seesaw activity. I how this helps.

  • ah. I see the confusion now.

My post on 9/2 says I'm a parent. To be clear, I'm logging in as my student. My ask is that students be able to access the direct link feature under the menu [...].  Today they can only print the activity.

  • Ah, I see. Yes, the direct link feature was developed for teachers to provide their students with a direct link to their assigned activity through Google Classroom, Canvas, Choice Boards, etc.  Students and parents do not have access to this feature. I suppose that is because the thought is students and parents do not assign activities.  However, the teacher can and might generously provide you with a direct link to the activity if you request it.

Once an activity is completed and in the student's journal, you may use the "share" option to share the link to finished work.

  • How can I use this direct links to Seesaw Activity without sharing all the activities with them, as I want students to use a Choice Board, so they can choose the activity that they want to do. I tried to assign the activities only with Sample Students so to get the student link but since I didn't assign the activity, it doesn't work. Please HELP!

  • Sorry, In order for the student link to work, the activity that you are linking to needs to be assigned.

I know that this is a highly requested feature for a future update.
