Easy Place for Students and Parents to see unfinished list of work

Many of my students lost track of their unfinished work, especially those in draft form, during remote learning.  If I sent something back for corrections, they didn't always see it and it would get buried in the journal.  It would be great for there to be a tab or folder for unfinished work with notifications to remind the student and parents that the work is still there. Many parents assumed that since it wasn't in the activities tab anymore that their child ha finished it.  It would be nice if parents could see the list from their end.  Obviously not the work yet, but at least the list of work to be done to make it easier for them to help keep their child on track.

Thanks for al of these great suggestions. Students can now see sections for the different status of their activities:

    • To Do (all activities assigned with no response)
    • In Progress (all drafts and send backs from the teacher)
    • Done (activities with a completed response)

We have not added any email notifications about unfinished assignments yet, still thinking about that one!

  • I would like to be able to click on the student and find a list of missing assignments instead of going through each one. Is this possible?

  • How can I as a teacher easily keep track of missing assignments?  It's so much to scroll through!

  • I would also like to be able to see a list of missing assignments from on specific student. Seems kind of silly this doesn't exist.

  • Could there even be a parent opt-in for weekly digest emails that show the activities their students completed that week and still have left to complete?

  • Please! There has to be an EASY way for us, as teachers, to see what students are missing assignments. Then there needs to be a quick way to send a gentle reminder to that student/parent of the student, that they have not completed these assignments. During these incredibly chaotic times, this small feature would save us all days of unnecessary scrolling. TY

This right here is the situation we are in.

    - We (parents)  need to monitor and audit him to keep on track.

    - We need alerts when an incomplete assignment reaches a certain age. Alerts on assignments sent back for further work would be very helpful as well.

    - We need to see that something has been sent back by the teacher with the comments

    - I really want a unified list of open assignments across all classes for me and my child. So we spend less time clicking in and out just to see everything and to help see all of it at once to set priorities and sort by date assigned, date due, or by class with grouping by these same dimensions.

    >The fact that comments are not easily and clearly attached to work that is returned as "draft" is problematic for students, teachers, and parents.

We (coparent and I) just had this discussion as he had to go back out of editing an assignment to see the teachers comments on what he needed to correct. Some kind of drop down or flyout of the comment stream maybe would help?

We need VISIBILITY! Right now all we see are things marked completed by the teacher but it is the incomplete stuff that is the issue.

Give me the ability to export as CSV, the JSON, an RSS feed and I will create my own tool and alerts if I have to!

  • It is a HUGE struggle managing all of the assignments in Seesaw! From a teacher perspective, we really need something that allows us to see all of the missing activities for each student on one page. I cannot sift through the 70+ activities. It's taking me so much time. Is there a way around this? This would save all of us so many hours of sifting through old activities.

  • As a parent, I want to know whether my child has done his assignments for the day. There appears to be no way for me to tell in Seesaw parent view. Can there you created an "unfinished" assignments tab or list in the parent view?

  • Is there a way to see which students are missing what without looking at each assignment individually?

  • As a parent, I just log in as my child if I want to see anything -- the Family view is not at all useful for helping him.

Here's what I/we see when the teacher sends something back because she wants him to modify it in some way

    1. In the Journal tab, the assignment is shown, it has an orange bar on top indicating it's a Draft, and the teacher's comment is there
    2. In the Activities tab, the assignment is shown under To Do, but it does not have the orange Draft banner.  The only difference between it and an assignment which has never been done is that instead of "waiting for response", the button says "respond again".
    3. The biggest problem is that in the Activities tab you also can't see the teacher's response/comments.  We couldn't find any way to get those besides scrolling and scrolling through the journal entries for them

  • Thanks for the insight about how it looks as a parent.  We're also thinking about those 4th and 5th graders who don't want their families to know they are not submitting activities or submitting incomplete activities.  They are unlikely to allow their parents to use their login to see what work is missing or incomplete as shown in the Class App.

The fact that comments are not easily and clearly attached to work that is returned as "draft" is problematic for students, teachers, and parents.

  • Unfinished work is in their activity feed if it is an activity. On the student journal, they can click on the lightbulb icon for this. They will see a red gem with the number of items to complete. If they have a 'draft' item, it will show up in that feed. Also, it's been a BIG help for me as a teacher to archive activities the following Sunday after it was due. This will clean up the student activity feed.

  • Thank you.  I didn't realize that the drafts went back into the activity feed.  Do they only stay there for a certain amount of time or is that a new feature on new items only?  I checked in one of my student's accounts and he only has the draft that I just did as a practice.  All other activities in draft form are lost in his journal feed with no notification that they are still there.  I am also looking for a way for parents to see on their end that their child has those activities left to do.  Maybe just list form so they know that their child has incomplete work.

  • My students were told to always look at the comments that I sent them so they knew what needed to be corrected but the activity once sent back did not appear in their activity tab. It would be helpful that once returned to the students the activity would reappear in the activity tab so it is easier for the students to find and correct.

I would always log in to a student to see if the activity would return to their activity tab once I sent it back and it did not.

  • With all due respect, considering the magnitude of program deficits here and on other Help Center pages, where is the action response from the developers?
