Activity URLs for Students

TLDR :-D : Seesaw GREATLY needs URL links to take students directly to a particular activity.

Long, example-filled explanation: If teachers organize their day (common for K-3), week (4-8), or unit (specialists) using buttons/links on a Google Slide, it is easier to publish it in Seesaw as an activity or an announcement and have students start there, especially because it's very visual/inline--not just a link to click on first. This is a HUGE plus for Seesaw. In fact, I'm switching all my classes K-8 to Seesaw for this starting in the fall. However, teachers can add links on the slide to everything--web sites, Google or other assignments--everything BUT a Seesaw activity, because unlike just about every other student activity on the web, there's no URL to take a student to a Seesaw activity. This puts Seesaw activities at a HUGE disadvantage compared to completing assignments anywhere else. In addition to being a problem for using various means of organizing assignments, this is a problem for any teachers forced to use Google or any other non-integrated LMS as their main site, because they then can't link to Seesaw activities easily, and it's also a problem for any teacher above 2nd grade, because many of them must have at least some Google/Office assignments--if they had URLs for Seesaw assignments it'd be easier for them to regularly include Seesaw as well.

Student links to specific activities are available! Tap the [...] on any activity that has been shared to your class to get a student link. This link will take them straight to the activity on web, iOS or Android app.

  • Our district is working on a format similar to this one, and it would help us SO much if students could click directly on the day's Google doc to take them to the activity. I hope this feature is added soon!

  • Hi Susan Senek and Molly Kearns,

This is also our school's top request: fix the GET ACTIVITY link.

I made a pretty video to explain the issue and offer a solution. Enjoy!

  • This would be a fantastic feature that I know all of our teachers would use on a daily basis, especially with virtual/remote learning!

  • Yes!!!  Please make this feature work!  I am the Technology Facilitator for an elementary school, this was the number one “How do I...” my staff asked during Spring distance learning.  We were required to use Google HyperDocs and Google Classroom, and navigating our K-2 students over to Seesaw was very difficult. We will be using Schoology in the Fall and still need this feature. My Principal & PTO are willing and ready to purchase the full subscription to Seesaw for Schools, but without the proper ability to integrate Seesaw with our county-required system I cannot give it my full recommendation.

  • This feature is essential. As we move forward learning and teaching in our new norm, I have learned so much and thought of new ways to integrate technology and Seesaw activities into my teaching. I started by using Seesaw to just communicate with parents, show student work. Then we got into modeling appropriate behavior, techniques and showing off skills with videos. Distance learning provided SO many “news” with completing assignments online and being able to offer feedback immediately with voice comments. Having this activity link capability would take Seesaw to the next step!

  • This feature would be so very helpful. Our district is between Seesaw and Google Classroom. We used GC during the last homelearning experience. When sharing Seesaw with classroom teachers not more comfortable with GC, this feature - linking directly to an activity - is what they are asking for. Thank you for listening to all our requests, Seesaw.

  • Agreed!  This would be a fantastic fix.  I am a kindergarten teacher, so it would make it so helpful for me to be able to link directly to a specific activity and the student go right to it.  I really hope this feature is considered soon!!

  • Activity URL for students would be beyond helpful!! Many of our teachers and students are new to Seesaw...and next year we will be adding an LMS. The activity URL would simplify matters for students, teachers, and families...especially if we move back to distance learning.

  • Yes, Please! We are using canvas and Seesaw and I can't imagine sending my kinders on a wild goose chase to a specific activity in Seesaw.

  • So desperate for something like this. Dan's video says it all. Seesaw, you are amazing... this feature would be the integrative link needed to connect a true LMS to your content-creation platform.

  • This feature would be so helpful for our students! Our school is required to use Google Classroom this year.  Our K-2 teachers still want to use Seesaw by linking activities in Google Classroom.  We would appreciate this!

  • This would be so very helpful! My district is requiring the use of schoology for the year, but our school would love to still use seesaw. please make this possible!

  • This is the number one request from my school! It would be so helpful to know if it's in the works! Our school begins (virtually) Aug. 17 and if we knew it was a feature that may be added later this fall, we could put some temporary workarounds in place. If it isn't possible or likely, we will need to think differently about how we are putting together the dashboard for our parents. Thanks so much!!

  • Emily,

There does not seem to be a 'Get Student Link' when I click on the three dots. I only have:

Any ideas as to how to fix this?

    Thank you.

  • @Jross1, can you try refreshing your browser? If that still doesn't work, can you email help@seesaw.me with the email address on your teacher account so we can investigate for you.

  • @Emily Seesaw Product Manager, that worked, thank you. That was an easy solution I should have tried right away!

  • @Emily Seesaw Product Manager, do you know if students are logged into Seesaw will the link take them to the activity to be completed in their journal or will they have to choose their student name from a list of kids to submit a response.
