LTI Integration

Many of the teachers in my school district would greatly benefit from an LTI integration with Canvas.

Thanks for the feedback! This is something we are hearing from several of our customers and we hope to be able to explore further.

In the meantime, here is a universal link you can use that should directly open the Seesaw app when added to other portals (Canvas, Schoology, etc):
    https://app.seesaw.me/class_app_redirect/open

Please note that you should select "open link in a new tab" for redirects rather than "embedded iframe," as Seesaw does not currently support an embedded experience across the app for all portals.

Additionally, if the same SSO (ex. Google Auth, Clever, ClassLink) is used for Seesaw and your school portal (Canvas, Schoology, etc), logging in and out of Seesaw through the school portal should also be relatively easy.

  • Similarly, we would benefit from LTI integration with D2L's Brightspace

  • We would like to see an LTI for Blackboard as well.

  • We would also like to see an LTI integration for Schoology with a SSO option.

  • Our school district (2nd largest in VA) purchased Canvas this spring for K-12. Seesaw as an LTI for Canvas would be a tremendous help to our teachers and students.

  • Yes please!! Unfortunately the redirect link reads the error message "sign in is not supported on the mobile site. Please use the Seesaw app for iOS instead" when using iOS devices. Could there be a way to redirect directly to the app from Canvas in the meantime and then students can switch between apps?

  • Here is a link you can use that should directly open the Seesaw app when added to other portals (Canvas, Schoology, Blackboard, etc): https://app.seesaw.me/class_app_redirect/open.

I also updated the official comment response to include this link.

  • YES, PLEASE! My biggest request is that Seesaw and Canvas work together to find some way to have students create content in Seesaw, with its AWESOME, kid-friendly tools, and submit that content DIRECTLY to Canvas within an assignment. The only workaround I've found so far is to have students use the Share option in Seesaw, but that only works AFTER I've approved their post. That means they create the content/do the assignment in Seesaw, submit it for teacher approval, and then have to go back (usually the next day, after I have time to review the submissions from the class), locate the correct post in their journal, use the Share option to copy the CORRECT link, navigate to the assignment in Canvas, paste the link in the correct text box, and submit the assignment to Canvas. That's asking A LOT of five year olds!

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE! I would be a faithful Seesaw user and promoter for life if you can make this happen!

  • Thanks for the redirect, but if students can't log in using an ios browser, it's not very helpful.

  • I tried iframe generator and embedded in Schoology with no luck. Embeds the login page, allows you to select student, teacher, parent but then glitches. Can never access SeeSaw.

I also tried the redirect link and it is not working as I thought it should either.  It appears to be working inside Schoology as well b/c the sign in page for SeeSaw shows up, you can choose whether you are a student, teacher or parent but when you attempt to sign in it flashes and then nothing happens.

    Any ideas?

  • I was able to login with a laptop, but not with an iPad. Like many of you mentioned, after inputting the login information, it simply does not move past that. This is a problem, because my students will be using an iPad for distance learning. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • Great request Matthew!

Over in Australia we have been learning online most of this year. Our school wide platform for online learning is Canvas, however there is no ability for students to create/complete tasks with the ease that Seesaw allows. We have been using Seesaw alongside Canvas but our school is keen to sick with programs that embed into Canvas.

The ability to embed Seesaw within Canvas would be a lifesaver!

  • I am glad to see there is some other discussion here about an LTI. I know there is an "Official Response" but opening in a new window is still not the easiest way for us to navigate Seesaw in our Canvas LMS. As more and more schools roll into the ranks of Learning Management Systems, having interoperability is going to become more important for a company like Seesaw.

  • An LTI integration would make using Seesaw with Canvas much smoother for students.  Would love if their post could go directly into the Canvas assignment for grading.

  • It would be extremly beneifical to have an LTI integration for Seesaw with Canvas, especially for our kindergarten students. This would be much smoother for our students and families trying to access learning! Thank you.

  • My kindergarten students would benefit greatly from an LTI integration for Seesaw with Canvas! It would be great if they could complete and submit assignments within Canvas. The redirect tool seems to only work when we open a new tab and students and parents still need to take extra steps to submit their work in Canvas to be counted for participation and grades.

  • YES to all of the above requests!  Embedding within an LMS (we use Schoology) would be MOST beneficial to our youngest students who cannot easily navigate between Seesaw opening in new tabs and then back to Schoology, especially on iPads.  Using an iframe to embed the direct activity would give us the best results.  I agree with posts above that there is still an extra step needed to count the Seesaw submission within our LMS and in an ideal world this would flow seamlessly. Seesaw provides a workable platform for our PreK-2nd grade students, but it needs to be accessible in a manageable way with the LMS.  Allowing an LTI embedded within the LMS would be a great start!

  • My District, North Penn School District, has13,000 students.  K-6 (7,00 students) we use SeeSaw and now Canvas.  An LTI would make things so much easier and seamless for online learning for our students. We would be happy to be a beta site for this.

  • Yes, having Seesaw embedded as an LTI in Canvas would greatly benefit our younger students in eliminating the need for "bouncing around" outside of the LMS. Please seriously consider making this happen!

  • I totally agree with the above comments. We use Schoology and our K-5 teachers will be using it for the first time in the fall. We really need help making this easy for teachers and students. Thank you

  • If Kindergarten is using Classlink to get into Seesaw and teachers have Seesaw link in their canvas . will students automatically be logged into Seesaw thru Classlink ?

  • Schoology with Clever sometimes performs the automagic login, and often requires the entire process of finding a school, etc., which is a bit much for a 5 year old.

We are required by our District to use Schoology, and I am in open rebellion and just using Seesaw bc it works...but our entire school purchased the Schools version, and now they are all in a pinch.

Any ETA on when this will be functioning for our families and colleagues?

  • Please consider an actual LTI integration between Canvas and Seesaw! There are so many districts now using both tools, it would be amazing to assign Seesaw activities directly in Canvas so that the gradebook syncs!

  • I see many of us are asking for the LTI integration between SeeSaw and Canvas.  Does Seesaw have any plans to do this and if so, when?  How is everyone linking Seesaw in the meantime?

  • I can't answer for Seesaw's future plans but the way you add the assignment into and LMS id by using a link.
    1. Assign activity
    2. Go to the activities section in your class
    3. Click on the 3 dots in the bottom right corner of the activity you are wanting to assign
    4. Click on get student link
    5. Hit copy
    6. Paste the link into your LMS

This only takes students out to the assignment in a new tab, but at least it takes them right to the assignment. I hope the helps.
