notifications only to teacher who assigns activities

I have a number of co-teachers on my account and I wish that notifications would only go to the teacher who assigned an activity, rather than coming to me.

Hi folks, thanks for sharing all of the feedback! We completely understand how this is painful and annoying, especially for specialist teachers! To be honest, our current notifications infrastructure is just not very flexible and so it's basically an all or nothing situation today. Sadly, I don't have a good alternative available. To support more granular notifications, we need to rebuild notifications completely, which probably won't happen for this year's Back to School.

  • Hi Jill, do you still want other notifications for activity in that class? Or just to turn off all notifications for a specific class?

  • I have a number or co-teachers on my class (German, French, Music, PE). Anytime a student responds to one of their activities, I get a notification, so it is difficult for me to keep track of my own notifications. I would love if the notifications only went to the teacher who assigned the activity.

  • We are having the same issue, Jill. Worried that if we create a separate class for each subject then our young students will have to check in too many places to see what Activities have been assigned in each subject. So, we kept students in one class. Having notifications go to everyone has caused several issues - including items being published to the blog that shouldn't have...

  • Yes, with distance learning, I added my TAs, Speech, and other related services teachers to my account as co-teachers so they could see and comment on the student posts for morale and positivity; additionally to help support when students needed some extra help.  They have all mentioned that they are a bit overwhelmed with the notifications.  I understand needing and getting them as teacher of record who assigned the work, and did not mind the notices when the speech teacher assigned her work, but also did see how it can become a bit much.

  • Any response to this important issue, Seesaw? Is it only all or none for notifications?

  • Is it possible for a teacher to select whether or not s/he receives notifications and, if so, if they can choose which classes to receive notifications from? If each teacher were able to set their own notification preferences rather than them being set by the class, that would be helpful. Then specialists could just turn off notifications for a class if they do not want to be bombarded with emails and just periodically check the classes for student work.

  • As a specialist, I would really like to receive notifications on for Music classes.

  • Our teachers would also want this feature for our accounts. It is incredible overwhelming seeing numerous notifications that do not apply to you. We need to respond to our students in a timely manner and we are having to constantly check to see if the notification is for us or a different teacher. If I turn off the notification for all, then I am afraid I will miss those notifications that I need to respond to.

  • I am on the same boat. As a music specialist that has not yet started assigning work, I have seen myself bombarded by notifications from all the classes where I appear as a co-teacher. On my side, I added a filter to my email in order to have the notifications with specific subjects, skip the inbox and go to a special folder. Now I do not receive all the parent access requests, or students work submission report.
    I do have a concern:

once I start assigning activities, how do I avoid having my assignments getting lost in a sea of classroom assignments?

  • Jill, if I turn off email notifications in MY account settings, would the other co-teacher still be able to leave hers on and receive notifications for her class? My thinking is since this is in ACCOUNT settings and not CLASS settings, it would just affect me. Is that correct?

  • It would definitely be great to only receive notifications for activities I assign. I am a specials/rotations teacher, so I have 19 classes on Seesaw. I turned off notifications, so I no longer receive emails or see push notifications on my tablet, but I still have that red notification bubble when I get on Seesaw. My Seesaw currently shows 2000+ notifications, and the only way to get rid of that number is to approve posts for activities I did not assign...which of course I can't do. It drives me a little crazy haha.
