Edit Item should not kick you back to activity list

When using "edit item" to add comments to a student's work so they can go back and fix it, it sends you back to the activity list. It should return back to the review of the activity so a teacher can continue to review other students' work.

Thank you all for this great feedback! Our team has just launched an update that allows a better workflow for teachers when editing posts or activity responses. Now when you edit a post or activity response from the web from the […] > Edit Post, we will open the creative tools in a new tab, then close that new tab when you click the green check to save your edits. We’ll also refresh the image to show your changes. Your place will not be lost! All you need to do to see this update is refresh your page!

  • Thanks Melissa for the feedback! We've heard this a few times, we'll see what we can do.

  • This is exactly what I was going to post!  It's very time consuming to have to go back after every edit.

  • Earlier when a student response was edited, after clicking on the green tick, the page opened in the particular students journal. Once the activity is located on that page, clicking on the activity would take us back to the main activity with all student responses. Now after clicking on the green tick we are taken back to the main activities page. This highly inconvenient. Why have these settings changed??

  • This is not fixed and such a pain. Please make using Seesaw efficient for teachers, especially those of us that are teaching 100% online and everything we do is incorporated into Seesaw.

  • When teachers "Edit an Item" while reviewing student work, it actually takes them back to the journal. It's a lot of click to get back to the activity review and move to the next student. Here is a screencast showing how teachers are routed: https://screencast-o-matic.com/watch/cYQjDNHG8b

Maybe I need to update something because it is taking me back to the student's journal. There seem to be a lot of small, extra steps on Seesaw that just eat my time and efficiency away. I'm new to Seesaw as my district is requiring it for distance learning for our k-2 teachers and I really don't see what all the fuss/excitement is about.

  • Oh my goodness.  What a waste of time. Why are we being redirected to the activity list?

  • Thank you Brittany Horn for making the screencastify to capture this issue.  The most overwhelming thing about using Seesaw when you are teaching 100% distance learning and all work is done through Seesaw is trying to grade items. Like mentioned here, returning to the journal page only to have to scroll down find the activity again, open next student and then if you need to make comments, suggestions or corrections in an edit, you repeat the loop.

Just opening and closing every item is time-consuming.  Adding this needless extra step makes it harder.

  • Hi folks, we're sorry about this issue! I know it's annoying and this workflow requires lots of extra clicks/scrolling on the web. Thanks for sharing the screencastify Brittany, super helpful. We're working on improvements to activities right now, I I'll bring this change back up.

  • That's good to hear! Having multiple classes, this is a massive point that would make feedback and corrections easier! It is too time-consuming to edit items currently.

  • No, I just tested leaving feedback for a student using the "Edit Post" option, but was kicked back to the main Journal page after submitting feedback.

  • This is one of the most time consuming features in Seesaw. I'll be honest, I hate wasting the time it takes to get back to where I was. I should be able to go directly to where I was in the approval list to finish what I was working on, not to the kid's journal. Please, Please fix this.

  • Yes, this would save so much time.  Please change this feature, Seesaw!

  • Can this be changed as soon as possible please? It would be so much easier to return to the activity screen where we can see the grid of all the children's work. Thank you.

  • I love to edit/draw 😀 on kids' work as I grade but Seesaw kicks you out and them I have to find the child's activity again to approve it. Sooo frustrating & time-consuming!! 😩 PLEASE change this!!!

  • This would save SO MUCH TIME grading all the assignments. Have over 100 students in my 6 different classes, it takes time to edit and provide meaningful feedback with this kicking out feature. Would love this feature!

  • Edit Item should not kick you back to activity list because it eats up a lot of time. Unable to give constructive comments to all the students.

  • This is a huge waste of limited teacher time.  Please update so we are not kicked out of the activity we are trying to assess each time we send work back!

  • This is what I came here to say as well! The way things are set up now, teachers spend more time checking work because we are brought back to the main activity list. If we could view Student A's work, comment and edit if necessary, and then click a button to move right over to Student B, that would be extremely helpful and save us a lot of time!

  • Maybe an option to mark/grade work where you can tick add stickers then approve instead of editing. And when you’ve clicked approve to go back to items that need approved for the whole class

  • I would LOVE some sort of teacher grading toolkit!  Writing comments doesn't work for my little ones, and they love to see the stickers I add.... or I correct/grade/circle their answers for them to fix.

When you are grading a whole class worth of work - especially if it is for every subject due to distance learning, it is such a pain to try and "find" it after you edit it to approve it!  This would make my life so much easier!

  • I love the sticker idea for grading.  The way we do it now make me just want to approve it and not correct/send it back because it causes so much hassel.
