How to move teacher accounts, students and classes into your school

If you have teachers using the free version of Seesaw, you can move their accounts into your school subscription. Any new classes you can create using roster import or Clever roster sync.



Step 1: Approve Pending Join Requests from Teachers with Existing Accounts

  1. Sign in to your Seesaw for Schools admin account at:
  2. On the Overview tab, if there are teachers who have indicated in their Account Settings that they are part of your school and the email address they used for their account matches the valid email domains for your school, you will see a notification: "# of teachers want to join your school". 
  3. Click on the View and Approve button. 
  4. View the list and accept teachers who are part of your school. 
  5. Follow the prompts to move these teacher accounts, along with all of classes and students, into your school. 

Step 2: Add Remaining Teachers with Existing Accounts

Some teachers might not have indicated that they are part of your school during the account create process. That is OK! You can still add their accounts to your school. 

  1. Sign in to your Seesaw for Schools admin account at:
  2. Click on the Teachers tab
  3. Click on the Add Teachers to School button
  4. Paste your full certified staff email list, one email address per line into the text area. We only need teacher email addresses. We’ll check to see if your teachers have a Seesaw account and if they do, we’ll move their account, classes and students over to your school.
  5. Follow the prompts to finish moving teachers accounts over to your school. 

To add additional valid domains to your school, please email 

If a teacher created their account using a personal email address, ask them to change the email address on their account in Account Settings to use a school email address, and then move them to your school. 

Step 3: Add a Unique Student ID for Each ‘Free’ Student.
If you want your student portfolios from free Seesaw to be linked with their portfolio in Seesaw for Schools, you will need to associate their unique student ID with the data in their free account.

  1. Sign in to your Seesaw for Schools admin account at:
  2. Click on Assign Missing Student IDs link in the Admin Tools section. 
  3. Type in or paste a student ID for each missing ID. If the student ID is already in use, you will be able to merge the student accounts together to create a single account. 
  4. Use the "Filter by" option to filter by class if you have a lot of missing IDs and it's easier to do it class by class. 

It is simplest to add student IDs before importing class rosters for the new school year. 

Step 4: Use Roster Import to Create New Classes

For any new classes you want to create (for teachers who did not use the free version of Seesaw), create those using the Seesaw roster import process or Clever roster sync. Refer to the Seesaw for Schools Success Plan to learn how to create rosters for new classes! 

Additionally, district admins who have Clever sync for their school/district can now pause Clever sync if need be! Clever sync can be paused, or resumed at any time via the district dashboard. For example, admins may want to pause their clever sync over the Summer (so teachers can continue to use Seesaw) and then resume in August.
