Skills are transitioning to Sitewide Standards
In June 2024, all premium school and district customers were transitioned to Sitewide Standards. Teachers can download and export existing Skills before December 2024. Seesaw Plus (legacy) customers can continue using Skills and download data until December 2024. 💡 Learn more about Sitewide Standards!
Overview
Teachers can use Seesaw for formative assessment and can tag their students' posts with their own set of Skills or standards! Optionally, teachers can assign a simple star rating to student work to get a real-time understanding of how students are progressing towards key curriculum objectives, inform instruction, and save time on reporting.
Admins can let teachers decide if they want to rate Skills on a scale out of 3, 4, 5, or 6 stars or set the same rating scale for all classes in your school using Schoolwide Settings!
See how teachers use Skills for formative assessment here.
Seesaw for Schools administrators can import Skills in bulk for their schools. Teachers will then have access to the imported set of skills across the entire school.
You can create your own set of Skills, or view the Curriculum Skills Templates we have created here.
If you would like to transform your school's curriculum into Skills that can be tagged to items in Seesaw, follow the below steps to upload your Skills to your school!
The process to upload Skills is similar to the class roster import process used to create Seesaw for Schools classes.
Creating your Skills
- Make a copy of the Seesaw for Schools Skills Import Template.
-
Rename the Seesaw for Schools Skills Import Template to add your school name.
Ex: Oakhills Elementary - Seesaw for Schools Skills Import Template. - Review the Instructions and view the Example Data tab.
-
List your skills in the “Your Skills” tab of the spreadsheet.
You can add up to 10,000 skills to your Seesaw for Schools dashboard! -
Save this spreadsheet as a .csv file. (File > Download as .csv).
Note: If the spreadsheet has multiple tabs, please download each tab you want to upload.
Uploading your Skills
- Sign in to Seesaw as an Admin.
- Tap on the Skills Tab.
- Tap the 'Import School Skills' button.
- Tap the 'Select CSV from Computer' button.
- Locate the .csv that you downloaded to your computer.
- Follow the prompts to upload your Skills.
You will get an email when your Skills have been uploaded. Your teachers will see any skills that are designated with the same grade level as their classes. Ex: Teachers with Grade 1 classes will only see Grade 1 Skills, Grade 2 will only see Grade 2 Skills. Skills tagged with All or Other will be visible to all teachers regardless of grade level.
We have created Curriculum Skills Templates for you so you don’t have to!
View the Curriculum Skills Templates we have created for US Common Core, TEKS, Ontario Canada, New Zealand, New South Wales, Victorian, Australia, UK, as well as Seesaw Skills, ISTE Student Skills, and Social Emotional Learning Skills.
Note: Your school or district might use different grade levels than what is available in Seesaw (e.g., years, mixed age groups, etc.). We would suggest that you choose one way to use grade levels in Seesaw that will be used consistently across your Seesaw classes and your schoolwide Skills. This will prevent any confusion and ensure teachers can see the right Skills for their classes.
